With a new year on the horizon, it’s always exciting to see what colours, styles, materials and finishes the big names in interiors are championing. But hold the fanfare, because the coming year isn’t going to be a huge shift from 2024.

Wood, curves, textured finishes, browns and bold jewel tones remain firmly in place, but there’s just a touch more warmth and cosiness on the bill. Colour-wise, we’re looking at rich, moody, grounding hues – think deep greens and browns - and delicious curry…

Here’s what some of the big players have picked for their Colour of the Year 2025:

Dulux: True Joy

“This uplifting yellow was created to fill your homes with creative energy, optimism and pride. It works brilliantly on its own as a statement colour or as a striking accent colour to complement other shades.”

Pantone: Mocha Mousse

"A warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort."

Graham & Brown: Elderton

“The Elder is a stunning plant with some varieties having almost deep brown leaves which is where our Elderton Hue comes from. This timeless and charming shade is a perfect neutral toned brown which will never go out of fashion.”

Valspar: Encore

“An anchoring shade of ultramarine that embodies constancy and confidence to let you create a joyful respite from the ebbs and flows of life.”

Behr: Rumors

“A deep and dynamic ruby - a modern take on the timeless red that creates an energetic appeal to make a lasting statement in a stunning way.”

Double drench!

The 2024 trend of ‘drenching’ will continue. This is where contrasting white woodwork and ceilings are banished, and everything is painted the same colour - walls, trims, skirting, ceilings and doors – also extending to furniture and other décor.

But this year, you can ‘double drench’ and either pair colours that are next to or near each other on the colour wheel for a bold look, or simply go for subtle differences in the shades, tones, tints and finishes of your chosen colour.

What about style?

Well, whereas 2024 had more of an old-world, timeless feel, 2025 is shaping up to have a bit more fun here and there.

Swings

By all accounts, swings are in – big, luxury ones! Interior designer Brigette Romanek has one in her living room and installed one in Gwynneth Paltrow’s Montecito home.

Mixing metals

After some time in the wilderness, copper is making a comeback. Bronze, which has been a big player in recent years is still in the mix – but ‘mix’ is the key for 2025.

When you’ve got lots of wood and earthy, neutral tones in the base palette, a mixture of different metal finishings can sit happily together. See this article from Homes & Gardens with expert advice on how to mix metals perfectly, so you don’t end up with a clash.

“Two years ago, I was erring more towards stainless steel, but we’ve come full circle and are using warm metals again.”

Statement stones

Stone and marble might be commonplace these days, but in 2025 it’s all about swirls, streaks and bold patterns!

Dramatic wallpapers

I’m lifting the following from James Mellan-Matulewicz, Founder & Creative Director of Bobbi Beck. He has highlighted three key wallpaper trends that are being repeated across the industry:

  1. Dramatic and sophisticated dark designs

“Deep, moody hues—such as charcoal, navy, and forest green—paired with intricate patterns or metallic accents, will create spaces that feel luxurious and cocoon-like, without overwhelming the room.”

  1. Vintage colonial-style murals

“Idyllic pastoral scenes, tropical foliage, or architectural elements reminiscent of bygone times can transport us to another time and place. Perfect for living rooms, studies, or hallways, these murals can make even the most modern spaces feel rooted in tradition, adding a sense of history and storytelling.”

  1. Bold, playful retro

“Joyful, unapologetic, and a celebration of individuality. These designs are ideal for accent walls or eclectic interiors that mix modern furnishings with vintage charm.”

Statement ceilings

Following on from the colour drench trend, you can go really wild with your ceilings in 2025. Don't just think colour - think wallpaper, murals, texture, gloss and metallic!

Biophilic design: connecting with nature

Bringing the outdoors indoors and creating a connection with nature has been popular for a long time, but it seems to have been flagged up particularly for ’25.

This ‘biophilic design’ brings in in natural lighting & ventilation, plants, rocks and water features, to create a calm and relaxing environment. And to make sure you don’t end up with a room that looks too much like a wellness clinic, why not jazz it up with some dramatic wallpaper or a striking mural?
